As we finish up the series on What to Expect, I have a few more insider recommendations for making your wedding day run smoothly. :)
Don’t forget… to keep your bridal party and family members in the loop. Send out an itinerary of important times & places for them to know about during the wedding weekend.
Don’t forget… to check your lighting. If you’re getting married outdoors especially, I suggest visiting your venue at the exact time you’ve planned the ceremony to start or even doing this at your rehearsal the night before. This way you can see how the light falls around where the altar will be. Bring along a friend or your fiancé and look at the light on their face. A squinty groom in person is a squinty groom in photos, and spotty shadows from dappled light coming through the trees cannot easily be fixed in Photoshop. Checking out the light before your big day will give you the chance to make minor changes that could make a world of difference in your photographs.
Don’t forget… we want to see your faces. If you’re having a unity candle, sand pouring, or any other kind of special tradition during the ceremony, make sure you set it up so that you perform it facing the congregation. We don’t want to see your backs!
Don’t forget… to pamper yourself; you deserve it! No matter how low-maintenance you may be, I strongly advise hiring professional hair & makeup artists. They will know how to emphasize your greatest features so you’re ready for close-ups at picture time. Ask me for my preferred vendor list for recommendations!
Don’t forget… to eat on your wedding day before the ceremony! It’s always longer than you think it’ll be before you get to eat again.
Don’t forget… if you are wearing heels, bring a pair of comfortable shoes to wear while you’re walking around getting pictures done as well as for dancing at the reception.
Don’t forget… menus! Your guests are going to want to know what they’re eating. Honestly, I’ve been at events without a menu and had no idea what was on my plate!
Don’t forget… on the day of the wedding, make sure to have someone who can handle delivering your final payments to any vendors that still need to be paid.
Don’t forget… to also delegate someone to pack up your gifts as well as any special décor you provided for the reception.
Don’t forget… to have a bag packed for your wedding night. You’ll probably get ready somewhere other than where you’re spending the night, so make sure to drop your bag off or give it to someone who will remember to send you away with it later.
Don’t forget… that you’re getting MARRIED to the love of your life, so remember to take a moment alone with your new spouse and really soak in the day. It goes by in a flash!!
That’s all I have for now! Do you have any other tips or suggestions for brides-to-be? Leave them in the comments below!
