Photographing a proposal has always been on my bucket list. When Peter contacted me about his plans, I couldn’t say yes fast enough! He and Kristan had a brunch date on Sunday morning and were going to go for a walk in the park beforehand. He had arranged for a caricaturist to be set up in the park and he would persuade Kristan to have their portrait drawn. Unbeknownst to her, the portrait would show Peter down on one knee.
Everything went off without a hitch, and when the artist turned the portrait around, Peter mimicked the drawing and got down on one knee to propose. Kristan was so surprised!
Later on, I told my husband that now I know how he felt before proposing to me because I had such butterflies for the moment to happen! Before they got there, I scouted my location and watched for them to arrive. I had to stay behind bushes and be discreet so she wouldn’t see me photographing them! There was a prime location at the bench closest to them. I pretended to be waiting on someone by looking around and pacing a bit. Once the proposal started happening, I was right there and ready! It was perfect! Oh my goodness, I just love this pure joy! We had a few minutes before their reservation for brunch, so we took a some newly engaged portraits. We hopped across the street to a brunch that Peter had set up with another surprise for Kristan: her family and friends were waiting downstairs to celebrate the newly engaged couple!
