I have been completely enamoured with Southern Weddings magazine since I started my business and became immersed in all things wedding-related. Lara Casey, the magazine’s editor-in-chief, has another blog that I’ve followed which is a great source for inspiration, motivation, and encouragement. Years ago, when my business was still a baby, I read one of her posts that talked about taking risks. She quoted Wayne Gretzky saying “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”. At that point, Southern Weddings has just premiered the Blue Ribbon Vendor list and I was anxious to be a part of that family. I followed the words of that motivational quote, applied to be a Blue Ribbon Vendor, and waited to hear back about being added to the list.
The problem was I EXPECTED to be accepted that first time, but to my dismay that didn’t happen. My images were strong and my business was doing well, so I wondered why I wasn’t taken in with open arms to be a part of this special group. I felt like I did in college during sorority rush and my top pick didn’t give me a bid (Yes, that happened. I was crushed and I dropped from rush because of it). But this time, I wasn’t going to give up and throw in the towel so easily. A couple years passed and after giving my brand a complete overhaul, going over my client relations with a fine tooth comb, and improving where I thought I was lacking, I decided to apply again at the beginning of this year. This time I didn’t allow my ego to get the best of me and knew that if I got accepted it would be an honor.
When I got the email from the ladies at Southern Weddings about being accepted to the list, I was able to truly appreciate the value of membership. I worked hard to improve my business and it paid off. It was a humbling experience and one I am grateful for now. I’m so proud of where I’m at in my business and thrilled to be a part of the SW family!
Thanks to my wonderful clients, Christine Faust with Christine Faust Events, and Alexandra Barham with Upstate I Do for contributing their personal testimonies for me! Y’all are the BEST!! xoxo
