Summer weddings in the South always keep you on your toes, and Kylie and Geoffrey’s day at The Barn at Sitton Hill Farm was no exception. It was hot and humid from the start, but like most summer wedding days, rain was in the forecast. We all kept one cautious eye on the sky. Somehow, we lucked out and kept everything dry through the ceremony. Kylie and Geoffrey shared vows, then the celebration began. It felt like we had officially outrun the storm.
Until we didn’t.
Right in the middle of the reception toasts, the sky turned. Within minutes, we were under a tornado watch. The wind howled so loudly it truly sounded like a train coming straight through the property. Rain pushed sideways and began flooding into the venue.
And yet, not a single toast stopped.
The vendor team jumped into action without hesitation. Tables were moved, DJ equipment was lifted to safety, and towels were stuffed against doors where water tried to creep in. All the while, heartfelt words continued over the microphone, glasses were raised, and the couple sat hand in hand, taking it all in. It was one of those surreal moments where chaos and beauty exist at the same time.
Just as quickly as it arrived, the storm passed. The skies cleared, the air cooled slightly, and the dance floor filled like nothing had happened. Laughter echoed through the barn, shoes were kicked off, and the celebration carried on with even more joy, as if surviving a near washout made everyone more determined to savor the night.
Then, Mother Nature decided to apologize and we were gifted the most breathtaking sunset just before the light disappeared. Golden, glowing, and completely worth the wait.
Days like this remind me why I love what I do. Wedding days are not about perfect weather. They are about resilience, teamwork, and choosing joy no matter what rolls in. This one had all of that and more.
