Sarah & Jamie: Elopement in Asheville

Filed in: Weddings

Last month, I got a message on Facebook from Sarah. She told me that she and her fiance Jamie had been engaged for three years, and they recently decided to run away and secretly elope at the courthouse in Asheville. Little did she know, a courthouse wedding has always been on my bucket list! The intimacy of eloping and it being just the two of you is so romantic; I was thrilled to talk with her about their plans. Sarah had chosen casual wedding attire (complete with their trademark Converses!), a gorgeous spring bouquet, and a surprise cake for her groom. We set a date that worked for us all (since it was just the three of us and their witnesses, there wasn’t much to coordinate), but then we had that random snow come through. On the day we had picked to go to Asheville, the temperatures there were below freezing. No, thank you! We decided to wait until the following week, and boy, am I glad we did! We had the most gorgeous 75 degree weather and sunny skies. Sarah and Jamie were meant to have that beautiful day.

Sarah and Jamie, thank you so much for inviting me to join this special day in your lives. I know you’ve waited a long time to make your relationship “official” and it was a joy to photograph. I hope our paths cross again for your next adventure or special occasion to celebrate!

And then it was time to enter the courtroom…Sarah had two friends from Asheville come to serve as their witnesses. The ceremony was the quickest I’ve ever had, but no less meaningful and special. The ceilings in the old courthouse are spectacular! The entire space had so much history and character. After a few portraits, we took a quick walk over to Pack’s Tavern for cocktails and dessert. Jamie’s Jeep is his “baby”, so Sarah surprised him with this amazing cake!
